Birmingham, Managing Editor and Julie Nixon Eisenhower , Assistant Managing Editor, of the Saturday Evening Post: ...The Editors of Saturday Evening Post last year decided to announce a recipe contest and to call on the households of America for their most treasured dishes. The POST FAMILY COOKBOOK contains over 350 of these recipes, recipes which have been passed on lovingly from generation to generation. Because the Post is regarded as something akin to a family friend, there was a willingness on the part of Post cooks to share the secrets of favorite dishes, such as "Baseball Dinner,' prepared for years as a family of baseball fans progressed through Little League, to Pony, and finally to Legion baseball practice. Above all, it is the human element evoked by the recipe contest which makes this cookbook special. In preparing the cookbook, our thanks go to many people, but in particular to the Purdue School of Cooking, which set their experts to work for us in testing many of the recipes.
